Ed Sheeran to plant trees to reduce his carbon footprint | celebrities

CelebritiesEd Sheeran (30) has revealed that he plans to “plant as many trees as possible” to offset his carbon footprint. The singer lives on a huge estate in Suffolk in the UK and in an interview with BBC Radio London told how he is trying to buy up large tracts of land to help complete his mission: “More land means more space for many trees.”

“I’m trying to rewild as much of the UK as I can. I love my country and I love wildlife and the environment,” said Sheeran. “I know my job isn’t really sustainable because I’ll be performing all over the world, but I’ll do my best.” Sheeran started the project at his home. The artist tells how he transformed the field in his garden into a ‘wild meadow’: “I now have a huge beehive and a large pond with salamanders, a grass snake and hedgehogs.”

The problem with sustainability and being a public figure, Sheeran says, is that people will always find something to count on him. “I sometimes feel like people bite my nose when I say something about it,” said Sheeran. The star added that if everyone does their best “we can all make a difference”. He has spent the past five years building his estate, known as ‘Sheeranville’, planting dozens of trees to make his estate more sustainable.

A source told the British newspaper The Sun: “He has spent tens of thousands of pounds on the project, and Cherry (his wife) is also involved because she is involved in sustainability. He wants to compensate for his countless trips, which are not good for the environment.”
