Harvey Weinstein believes in his own chances again after Bill Cosby’s release | entertainment

entertainment">“By reversing Bill Cosby’s conviction, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court has shown that we can rely on justice. Whoever a defendant may be and whatever the nature of the possible facts.” Juda Engelmayer, a spokeswoman for convicted film boss Harvey Weinstein, told CNN.

entertainment">The response shows how Bill Cosby’s acquittal earlier this week also inspires Weinstein’s lawyers not to give up the fight. Cosby was convicted of rape in 2018. Dozens of other accusations were already legally barred by then, so that he could no longer be punished for those facts. But, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court now says: Cosby has not had a fair trial. And so the actor walked out of prison last week a free man.

entertainment">“This decision reaffirms our belief that the New York court will make a similar, correct decision in Harvey Weinstein’s appeal,” Engelmayer said.

entertainment">One of Weinstein’s attorneys, Duncan Levin, also welcomed the decision in the Cosby case. “Vague evidence of inappropriate behavior really has no place in a courtroom,” Levin told CNN. “In our legal system, nothing is more important than the presumption of innocence. The rules on the burden of proof ensure that a lawsuit does not result in unfounded attacks on the character of a defendant. That seems to have happened here as well.”
