Ecuador Receives 250,000 Doses of Updated Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine Amid Global Decline in Vaccination

Four years after the start of the pandemic and when vaccination worldwide has declined, Ecuador received 250 thousand doses of the updated vaccine against COVID-19.

Four years after the start of the pandemic and when vaccination worldwide has declined, Ecuador received 250,000 doses of the updated COVID-19 vaccine from the American company Moderna. The objective is to strengthen the immunization of the population, since the virus continues to circulate.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health (MSP), in the last week of February, nearly 300 people were registered as infected with COVID-19, not counting patients who do not seek care and think that the disease is a normal flu. Of those diagnosed people, two died.

The doses were acquired by the Ecuadorian government through the Pan American Health Organization Revolving Fund. The vaccine was brought by the company Medicamenta Ecuatoriana, which has an agreement with Moderna, according to a statement from the multinational.

This would be the first of two deliveries. For the second half of this year, another batch of 250 thousand vaccines is expected to arrive. The cost was 8 million dollars, which was assumed by the Ministry of Public Health.
