Ekonom Senior Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) Faisal Basri asked a number of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ministers to resign from the cabinet, including the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani and PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono.

This is because he believes that the Jokowi government is siding with candidate pair number 2 Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka in the 2024 presidential election.

Faisal claims that Finance Minister Sri Mulyani is the most ready to resign from the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet.

“Come on, let’s persuade Mrs. Sri Mulyani, Mr. Basuki and several other ministers to resign. That will have a powerful effect. Morally, I heard that Mrs. Sri Mulyani is the most ready to resign. Pramono Anung (cabinet secretary) is already stuttering. Isn’t the PDI ( “PDI Perjuangan) continues to defend Jokowi, it’s a headache,” claimed Faisal in the 2024 Political Economic Outlook in Tebet, South Jakarta, Saturday (13/1).

“He said he was waiting for the momentum, hopefully this momentum will soon, God willing, become a powerful trigger, like Pak Ginandjar (Coordinating Minister for Economics, Finance and Industry Ginandjar Kartasasmita) and 13 other ministers who resigned during the era of Pak Harto (President Soeharto),” he continued.

Faisal believes that if Prabowo-Gibran is elected, Indonesia’s debt could increase to IDR 16 thousand trillion. This amount is double Indonesia’s debt during the Jokowi era.

“If Jokowi’s policy continues with Prabowo and Gibran, it could be Rp. 16 quadrillion (Indonesia’s debt), in 5 years because he doesn’t work hard (increase income),” predicted Faisal.

Faisal assessed that the government seemed to ‘underestimate’ attracting new debt. He said the state was not thinking because it was not the officials who paid the debt.

However, it is the younger generation who must bear the damage in Indonesia.

“Because it’s not them who are paying (the debt), the debt is 10 years, 20 years, 30 years, it’s our younger siblings who are paying. So, what is clearly forgotten is that the Jokowi regime has left a very heavy burden for the younger generation,” he said.

“Therefore, you, especially generation Z, should not be silent. Because the actions of the current generation will be blamed on Gen Z, not me,” said Faisal.
