Echo(s): Exploring the Intersection of Ancient and Modern Masters at Goya Museum

From Friday October 20 to Sunday February 25, 2024, the Goya Museum invites the artists Najah Albukaï, Eve Malherbe and Arnaud Rochar, hosted in residence at Casa Velazquez in 2021-2022, to present their works on the walls of the Goya Museum as part of a temporary exhibition entitled Echo (s). Hosted in residence in the Madrid capital for a year, Najah Albukaï, Eve Malherbe and Arnaud Rochard all three explored, in their own ways, the art of the Spanish masters.

The intersection of views between ancient and modern masters

They summoned in turn the majestic Madonnas of the Golden Age of Zurbarán and Murillo, the terrible Disasters of War by Goya, as well as the delicate motifs of the azulejos and landscapes of the Iberian Peninsula. At the same time poetic, committed and baroque, this exhibition called “Echo(s)”, explores more broadly the question of filiation between the artists of yesterday and today, in a subtle game of back and forth and cross-references between current and old works. Designed as an “echo” to the collection, this exhibition is displayed in several spaces of the museum, in the temporary exhibition rooms on the ground floor, as well as in the permanent exhibition upstairs. From Madrid to Castres, the same passion is expressed: showing, seeing, dreaming… in Spanish fashion.
