EC card theft: Duo kills 100,000 euros – Baden-Württemberg

Mannheim (dpa / lsw) – In 25 cases nationwide, they are said to have stolen the EC card from elderly people and then used it to pay or withdraw money. According to the indictment, a duo deprived their victims of 100,000 euros in this way. The 29-year-old and her accomplice, two years older than her, are said to have watched victims enter their PIN numbers and then steal their credit card. The two defendants have been sitting in the dock of the Mannheim District Court since Monday (10:00).

According to the prosecutor’s office, between early April 2020 and mid-February 2022 in Baden-Württemberg (Hemsbach, Ladenburg, Calw, Lichtenstein and Weinheim), Bavaria (five cases), Hesse (eight), Rhineland-Palatinate (three) and in North Rhine-Westphalia (two) and up to malice in one case each in Thuringia and Saxony. In some cases, people’s entire wallets have been stolen. According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the defendant paid for purchases – sometimes in connection with withdrawing money – and used other people’s cash from machines in more than 45 cases. The prosecution is suspected in numerous cases of commercial gang cyber fraud.
