Ebene Magazine – “The Voice”: Why Kelsea Ballerini Drives Kelly’s Battle Rounds

When Kelly Clarkson fell ill during season 20 of The Voice, she knew exactly where to turn!

The singer, Emmy-winning talk show host, and voice coach fell in bad weather while filming Season 20 Battle Rounds, and last week her celebrity replacement turned out to be none other than … Kelsea Ballerini!

“Act like I’m Kelly,” the country star said in a promo for the Season 20 Battle Rounds, proving she has the Kelly spark when it comes to landing and taking shots. photos on fellow trainer Blake Shelton: “Hey Blake, did I ever tell you you look like my dad? ”

“Thank you very much @KelseaBallerini for sitting down while I felt under the weather!” Kelly shared on Twitter. “I know my team is in good hands with you !! You won’t want to miss this !! Battles begin next week on @NBCTheVoice! #TeamKelly #TheVoice. “

“When @kellyclarkson calls you up and asks you to keep his seat warm, you take all those years to be his super fan at work,” Kelsea said on his own Twitter. Thanks @johnlegend, @nickjonas and ole pops @blakeshelton for making me feel like part of the @NBCTheVoice family. ”

Kelsea has a lot of experience with the singing competition. She served as the fifth coach for the singers on the “Comeback Stage” segment of season 15 and was the celebrity mentor for Team Kelly during season 16.

ET spoke with Kelsea ahead of the Season 20 Battle Rounds, and she detailed how her last-minute involvement in this season of The Voice came together in “The Biggest Whirlwind” when Kelly fell ill.

“I was at my house in Nashville and got a text from Kelly around 9pm, like, ‘Hey, girl… I’m not feeling well. I don’t have COVID, but with the protocols I don’t feel safe filming, could you cover the Battle Rounds for me? Kelsea recalls, noting that saying yes meant she had to be in Los Angeles the next day to start filming. “So I got on the plane, studied everything and watched everything. I landed, the hair and makeup, the decor, I said hello to Nick Jonas, John Legend and Blake Shelton, I got in Kelly’s seat and I said, “Fake it til you make it ! “”

Luckily, Kelsea had kelp from Kelly herself, who was watching a battles livestream and texting her, “and lashing out at Blake all the time,” she added with a laugh.

“I really enjoyed it,” Kelsea said, although she couldn’t laugh at the moves she was supposed to be on Team Kelly a lot. “I didn’t have time to get nervous, because it was so fast, and it’s good for me. If I know that something is coming, I think about it and I get so nervous and anxious, so it was actually a real blessing. But yeah, I really enjoyed sitting in the seat, I’m not going to lie. ”

The Voice airs Mondays at 8 p.m. PT / ET on NBC. See more of the season in the video below!
