All the strength of the Attica Traffic Department is on foot since the morning to facilitate traffic on the roads as the last big wave of Easter excursionists departs for the region.

At this time, the traffic on the Athens-Corinth National Road is heavy.

In particular, there are delays from the height of the Elefsina toll road up to Agios Theodoros, as well as on the Attica road from Aspropyrgos to Magoula due to a traffic accident that occurred after the Aspropyrgos junction on the way to Elefsina.

Also, vehicles move at low speeds on Athens Avenue from the height of the Chaidari Forest to the refineries.

On the contrary, the movement of vehicles is proceeding smoothly on the Athens-Lamia National Road, where small delays are observed just before the Afidna toll.

The Traffic Department estimates that the exit will peak in the next few hours and will begin to ease in the early afternoon hours.

It is reminded that today, Good Friday, the movement of trucks on the exit stream of the national roads is also prohibited, from 06:00 in the morning to 16:00 in the afternoon.

Yesterday, Maundy Thursday, as it became known from the Traffic, a total of 119,896 cars passed through both national networks (70,588 from Athens-Corinth and 49,308 from Athens-Lamia).

KTEL, Airport

With occupancies reaching 100%, the exit of Athenians on their journeys from Kifisos and Liosion KTEL culminates. Athens Airport shows the same picture, with very high occupancy rates.

KTEL buses reach 100% occupancy for routes in the regions of Peloponnese, Aitoloakarnania, Epirus, Thessaly and Magnesia, Pierria, Evrytania, Fthiotida, Boeotia and Evia.

As the president of the Panhellenic Federation of Interurban Transport Drivers, Sofocles Fatios, told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, the traffic at both interurban bus stations is greater than last year, and in fact increased by 20%.

For today Good Friday, 250 routes are planned, of which 50 are emergency, and for Holy Saturday 180 routes.

The routes from the intercity bus station in Liosion have also increased, they exceed 100 daily, until Holy Saturday, for all 11 destinations: Evia, Fthiotida, Larissa, Magnesia, Karditsa, Trikala, Pieria, Fokida, Evrytania, Livadia, Thebes.

Flights

The traffic at the Athens International Airport has also increased, with aircraft departing with very high occupancy both on the domestic and international networks.

For tomorrow Good Friday, all flights (arrivals and departures) from “El. Venizelos” are 537, of which 268 are arrivals and 269 are departures. On Holy Saturday, the total number of flights is 467, of which 238 arrivals and 229 departures, while on Easter Sunday a total of 437 flights, 217 arrivals and 220 departures are expected. For Easter Monday, May 6, all flights on “El. Venizelos” is 504 (250 arrivals and 254 departures), for Easter Tuesday, May 7, 533 flights, with 265 arrivals and 268 departures and for Wednesday, May 8, 516 flights (261 arrivals and 255 departures).

The preferences of the excursionists

Top domestic destinations for this year’s Easter, according to AEGEAN data, from its two largest bases, Athens and Thessaloniki, are:

From Athens, the traditionally popular Corfu, while Ikaria and Sitia are this year’s “surprise” due to the high occupancy rates on the flights. Of particular interest are Ioannina, Zakynthos and Kos.

From Thessaloniki, Kos, Samos, Chios, Mytilini, Rhodes and Lemnos are especially popular this year.

Great mobility is also observed on popular routes, such as Athens – Thessaloniki, Athens – Heraklion, Athens – Rhodes and Athens – Chania.

The top foreign destinations from the Athens base are Marrakesh, Lisbon, Malaga, Naples, Paris and Stockholm, while from the Thessaloniki base the top preferences are Paris, Barcelona, ​​Rome, Larnaca, Berlin, Frankfurt.

Ports of Attica

Easter excursion traffic from the ports of Attica has also increased today, while the port authority is taking all the necessary security measures to facilitate them.

Passengers departing today should be at the ship’s departure dock earlier due to heavy traffic.

It is noted that the updated circular of the Ministry of Shipping applies this year to the transportation of alternative fuel vehicles on board ships, which stipulates that the charging level of electric vehicles should not exceed 40%, while for those powered by liquid gas or natural gas the tanks not to contain more than 50% fuel.

From the port of Piraeus for today M. Paraskevi, 18 itineraries are scheduled, 32 for the Argosaronic islands, 14 from Rafina and 10 from Lavrio.

Yesterday M. Thursday, 21 itineraries were made from the port of Piraeus, while a total of 27,263 passengers with 4,275 vehicles traveled to an Aegean island.

There were 38 departures for the Argosaronic islands, while 11,314 passengers departed with 1,433 vehicles.

From the port of Rafina, 16 departures took place, while 11,941 passengers with 2,767 vehicles departed, and from the port of Lavrio, 10 ship departures with 3,271 passengers and 1,105 vehicles.

In the meantime, the passenger ferry ship Crete II, which sailed safely to the port of Piraeus from Heraklion yesterday at midnight after a malfunction in one of its electric engines, will be replaced by the passenger ferry ship “Kissamos”. The passengers who were to travel today at 10 am have been informed by sms from the ship owning company.
