According to the British newspaper The Sun, the local fire brigade received a call at 10:20 pm. Neighbors of the actress called the fire department after they noticed the smoke at her front door. “There was a lot of smoke. People on the street saw what was going on and tried to help,” said an eyewitness. Both the fire brigade and the police quickly arrived on the scene. Several firefighters then kicked in the door. All help came too late for Anna Karen. The fire itself was brought under control around 11:38 p.m. The cause is still under investigation, but it is believed that no malicious intent is involved. “It’s a very sad thing,” said Shane Collins, the actress’s spokesperson.
