Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia A giant black hole turns towards Earth. The change in direction made scientists change the classification of galaxies where giant black holes are located.

The giant black hole facing Earth is located in the galaxy PBC J2333.9-2343 which is 657 million light years from Earth.

The galaxy is classified as a radio galaxy, because the giant black hole in it releases ionized material that is sprayed as far as 4 million light-years away forming structures on both sides of it. By comparison, the diameter of the Milky Way galaxy is only 105,000 light years.

The ion burst from the black hole was perpendicular to Earth. Now, the direction of the ion bursts forms a straight line or faces directly to Earth. That is, the giant black hole changes direction by shifting about 90 degrees.

“We study this galaxy because of its uniqueness. Our hypothesis is that the ion jets (jets) of this giant black hole change direction,” said Lorena Hernandez-Garcia, from the Millennium Institute of Astrophysics, as quoted by IFLScience.

Galaxy whose jets face Earth are referred to as “blazars”. The emission from these jets is so strong that they can shine even brighter than the galaxy they came from.

“Basic facts [lubang hitam raksasa] not a source of forming ‘lobes’ [struktur yang terbentuk di sampingnya], means it is very old. They are leftovers from previous activities. The structures closer to the core are younger,” Hernandez-Garcia said.

Then, what is the reason for this shift. The main hypothesis is the merger of two colliding galaxies. Another option is a powerful ion burst after a long period without any astronomical activity, pushing the giant black hole to a new axis.

Further observations are needed to describe this galaxy and its giant black hole.
