Dynamo’s dream comes true: Walter Fritzsch Academy as a step into a better future!

It’s finally done! The new Dynamo Dresden training center, the Walter Fritzsch Academy, was presented on Thursday.

Dresden – If he had still experienced it, he would be proud! The new training center for the professionals of the SG Dynamo Dresden and for the youngsters it bears its name, it is also the perfect gift for its 100th birthday in November: the Walter Fritzsch Academy – bearing the sponsor name AOK plus before it – was inaugurated on Friday morning after two years of construction.

Walter Fritzsch, a native of Zwickau, was the successful coach of the black and yellow team. In his nine-year tenure from 1969 to 1978, Dresden won five championships and two cups.

The “little general” shaped the dynamo gyroscope like no other, was a sponsor of the youth. He will now watch over the offspring.

Five days after the bitter second division relegation, they had all come to toast a new era with the inauguration of the new dynamo address at Messering 18, in order to take modern ways to get back up quickly.

Minister of the Interior Dr. Roland Wöller, Mayor Dirk Hilbert, all those responsible for the SGD, building owners, sponsors, all. No not all. One was missing: the father of the training center, Ralf Minge.

He had this vision, he was the pusher, the one who got everything going. He was apologized for “personal reasons,” as President Holger Scholze said. Who can blame him?

Nevertheless, Minge was thought of: “He had the vision when the club still had no equity, which had worked for years to make this dream come true for the club,” said Dresden’s Managing Director Michael Born.

Since February 2018, a functional and an economic building as well as three large play areas, a small field and other training facilities have been built for around 20 million euros.

The original cost was 15.4 million euros. According to Born, the additional costs arose in particular from growing construction costs, building permit requirements and disposal problems.

“At the annual general meeting in November, we increased to 22.4 million euros. We stayed below 20 million,” Born said proudly.

Since Dynamo’s young teams from the U16 to the U19 will also train there, the facility is currently being funded by the city of Dresden with four million euros and by the Free State of Saxony with 2.72 million euros.

The association will operate the site itself and purchase it from the client “Gesellschaft für Immobilienwirtschaft mbH Dresden (DGI)” over the next 25 years.
