Dutchman rattles Luxembourg with machine gun | Abroad

When the officers arrived on the scene, the Dutchman explained that it was an excavated rifle. The metal detector started beeping that afternoon.

The man appears to have found a submachine gun from the Second World War. The Luxembourg town is located in the north of the country, near Bastogne, where the Battle of the Bulge took place in December ’44 and January ’45. The Americans, led by General Omar Bradley, had stationed their headquarters in Luxembourg for a while.

Bombs and other dangerous material are regularly found in Nothum. That must then be defused by the military. It has been forbidden to excavate war material since 1966. The Dutchman has been fined.
