Dutch Formula 1 Fans to Watch Seven Grands Prix for Free via RTL Deutschland

Dutch Formula 1 fans can watch no fewer than seven Grands Prix for free via RTL Deutschland next year. Among other things, the season opener in Bahrain will be broadcast on the German Open Channel.

RTL Deutschland was a free option for Dutch fans in addition to Ziggo Sport for a long time, but after the 2020 season the contract with the premier class of motorsport was no longer extended due to financial reasons. The broadcasting rights were taken over by Sky Deutschland, the German branch of Sky Sports F1, where Formula 1 subsequently disappeared behind a paywall. In the meantime, the broadcasting rights in the Netherlands have ended up behind Viaplay’s paywall. Only the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort can be seen for free in our country on NOS on NPO1.

Collaboration for at least two years

However, Sky Deutschland and RTL Deutschland today announced a strategic partnership. The collaboration is for at least two years, with seven of the 24 Grands Prix being broadcast live and free on RTL. “The innovative partnership with RTL allows us to bring even more viewers the great events in the sport,” Sky Deutschland CEO Barry Mills said in a statement. RTL Deutschland CCO and CEO Stephan Schmitter is also looking forward to 2024: “We ensure the maximum reach of the attractive sports that Sky has to offer on a free TV channel and streaming platform, produced by the great teams on both sides.”

Seven qualifications and races

RTL Deutschland is available for free on Dutch TV. This means that we can also see those seven Grands Prix here for free. It is not yet known exactly which Formula 1 races are involved. The season opener at the Bahrain International Circuit, which will be held on Saturday, March 2, will be part of those seven races. During the Grand Prix weekends in which the race is broadcast on RTL Deutschland, qualifying will also be shown for free.
