Dusseldorf Theater Museum – Outside Dusseldorf

The theater museum was founded in 1938 as the private theater archive of the “Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf (Dumont-Lindemann)”, which existed from 1904 to 1933, and became the property of the city of Düsseldorf in 1947 through the Gustav Lindemann Foundation. Since then, the Theater Museum has transformed into a central research, mediation and documentation center for the history of the performing arts. It offers an extensive program of events, features exhibits, has an extensive collection of theater-related materials and a specialized academic library.

The focal points of the collection, research, documentation and exhibitions are in the history and theater scene of Düsseldorf and North Rhine-Westphalia, as well as in the modern theater: court theater and election opera in the 16th and 17th centuries, Bergisches Deutsches Theater under JG Wohlbrück 1805-1813, Immermann’s “model stage” 1834-1837, Düsseldorf municipal theater in the 19th and 20th centuries, Düsseldorf theater under Dumont-Lindemann, Düsseldorf theater under Gustaf Gründgens and Karl Heinz Stroux to the present day, opera German on the Rhine since its foundation in 1956, com (m) ödchen, chamber plays, boulevard theater, free theater, theater festivals, Zangerle Rhenish puppet theater.
