Düsseldorf at the Helm for People with Cancer: Charity Regatta Raises 35,000 Euros

The fact that the weather wasn’t exactly ideal on August 12th prevented any of the approximately 100 registered teams from taking part in the “Düsseldorf at the helm for people with cancer” charity regatta in the Media Harbor. Under the patronage of Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller, the participants stood up for a good cause.

On Monday (November 13th), mayor Keller and Kurt Nellessen from the “Düsseldorf am Ruder eV” association – an initiative of the Germania Düsseldorf rowing club – were able to send a donation check for 35,000 euros to the managing director of the North Rhine-Westphalia Cancer Society association, Heike Heymann-Pfeiffer, hand over. The RC Germania has been organizing the rowing event since 2015, which connects people and promotes open dealings with the disease of cancer.

The Cancer Society of North Rhine-Westphalia has been a contact point on the subject of cancer since 1951. In addition to health care and prevention, it also includes direct help when cancer is diagnosed. Those affected and their relatives are supported and advised so that they can better cope with the illness. Free advice is offered by telephone and in the advice centers in Düsseldorf, Frechen and Olpe. The donation from the charity regatta will be used to support the work of the cancer society, particularly the advisory services it offers. Further information about the work of the Cancer Society NRW can be found here.

The next edition of the charity regatta is planned for August 24, 2024.
