During Tourism Week, a vaccination agenda will be opened for people between 18 and 70 years old

The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, led a press conference this Tuesday night where he made several announcements regarding the health emergency due to the coronavirus.

In addition to measures to reduce mobility, the president reported that during Tourism Week (Sunday, March 28 to Saturday, April 3) the vaccination agenda will be opened for all people between 18 and 70 years old.

“We have idle capacity and a good system, we lack arms. We open the tap so that more people can get vaccinated, ”said the president.

In turn, he reported that the Government “is in the process of completing” a new purchase of Sinovac vaccines.

It is about 1,250,000 vaccines from the Chinese laboratory Sinovac that “would be arriving in May.” “We will do all the possible efforts so that they arrive in the first fortnight,” he said.

“In principle, with the Pfizer and Sinovac vaccines, plus what we obtain through the Covax mechanism would be enough vaccines for what is required by our population,” he said.

Regarding the health situation, Lacalle said that “it is far” from saturating the country’s ITC.

“Gente de Rivera was transferred to Tacuarembó. By department we can be complicated but we are far from a saturation process,” he added.
