During the day, 11 drunk drivers were stopped in Latvia

Seven drunk drivers were stopped in the Riga region, two in Latgale, and one each in Zemgale and Kurzeme.

Three administrative violation proceedings and eight criminal proceedings have been initiated for driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Sitting behind the wheel, if the concentration of alcohol in the body exceeds 1.5 parts per thousand, is criminally liable and, in addition to the penalty, the car is also confiscated if it belongs to the offender. If the drunk driver does not own the vehicle, then in addition to the fine, an amount of money is collected from him, which can reach the market value of the vehicle being driven.

In the past 24 hours, only three of the caught drunk drivers were behind the wheel of their vehicle, so their vehicle will be confiscated, while the other five will have to pay the state an amount of money depending on the value of the vehicle used in the offense.

TVNET already reported that 607 administrative violation decisions were made in the field of road traffic during the day, including 271 for speeding.

In total, 130 road traffic accidents were registered in the country during the past 24 hours, in which 10 people were injured and one died. On Friday, a truck hit a pedestrian in Alūksne.
