Denzel Dumfries believes that PSV players should swallow the criticism of the supporters. The captain spoke on Thursday after the 2-0 cup defeat against NAC Breda of “a repeating story”.
During the second half, there was a regular ‘shame on you’ from the branch, towards the PSV players, who let themselves be tapped by the club from the Kitchen Champion Division. “They are quite right,” Dumfries told FOX Sports.
“We have to take this criticism. It is terrible. We have to play much better, because this was unworthy of PSV,” stammered Dumfries.
PSV was entirely responsible for the defeat in Breda. “We started limply and let them get into the game like that”, Dumfries analyzed. “That is a repeating story. We are making it very difficult for ourselves again.”
“It was a collective failure,” said the right back. “We need to look carefully in the mirror, but I have said so many times lately.”
“We cannot give up”
PSV started the season with title aspirations, but poor results in mainly duels cost him his job last month. Under Interim Coach Ernest Faber no improvement has yet been achieved.
PSV was previously eliminated in the Europa League and lost the battle for the Johan Cruijff Scale. The wandering team is in fourth place in the Eredivisie with a backlog of twelve points on the leader Ajax, which means that the end of January season is well over.
“We just have to go on,” Dumfries said nonetheless. “We can never give up and try to get everything out and end up as high as possible.”
