Dufek added: Let the restaurateurs and hoteliers retrain for workers’ professions

“The segment of the hotel industry, restaurants and tourism is most affected, especially in Prague,” Dufek stated in an interview on the website of his association. He admitted that the services segment has a 60% share in the Czech economy.

However, the trade unionist did not stop: “So it will probably be necessary to go in this direction by organizing retraining courses, so that even people from this area can retrain for other professions.”

Dufek also has a clear idea of where former hoteliers and restaurateurs should go in the future. “Our labor market needs above all workers’ and technical professions. There is a lack of qualified craftsmen and at the same time high school graduates who can master modern technology, which is promoted mainly in industrial production, but also elsewhere, ”thinks the trade unionist.

Self-employed people cannot “compare” with the change

The trade union also embarked on a psychoanalysis of self-employed persons: “The problem is that the employees we represent as unions are used to counting on a forced change of job or even profession, but for self-employed he can’t compare them yet. “

“But in the end, they too will have to admit that not everyone will return to their dream goals, that is, how they will continue to do business well in their field and how they will try to serve their guests and customers well,” the trade unionist concluded.

Dufek thus follows up on his previous statements that he does not understand “why we should have 40,000 pubs”. He didn’t like that they were “alcohol pockets.”

He also argued that it would be better to support production than services. This is despite the fact that – as he now admitted – services 60 percent of the economy. Industry accounts for about 36 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).

Dufka was strongly criticized by his business representatives and the parliamentary opposition for his previous statements.
