5G could arrive in Chartres in the course of 2021

Beyond the deployment of optical fiber, Orange specializes in telephony and mobile internet. In Eure-et-Loir, some 350 4G relays are installed today.

Étienne Bordry, regional representative of Orange in Center-Val de Loire, provides an update on the deployment of mobile internet in the department:

“We have deployed 171 antennas on our own funds throughout Eure-et-Loir. Our deployment plan is quite ambitious. 168 of our antennas are in 4G, there are still three to be equipped by 2021. Six new sites were opened in 2019, and four this year. In addition, four new 4G sites are expected to open over the next three months and twelve, in total, within a year. “

The 4G mobile network is gradually strengthening in Eure-et-Loir

In Chartres, around fifteen sites are currently open in 4G by Orange. But the operator is also posting new goals. 5G, a new mobile network, is settling in France in December.

Implementation files

Chartrains equipped with compatible smartphones could use 5G in the course of next year. An ambition of Orange, according to Étienne Bordry:

“We are going to open 5G in different cities. We plan to open 5G in Chartres in the course of 2021.”

5G is the fifth generation of mobile networks, which succeeds 2G, 3G and 4G technologies, notably with better speed and more capacity. 5G must improve existing services and promote the development of new services: health, transport, industry, etc.

The deployment of 5G in France in questions

The Orange regional delegate details:

“When we open a city to 5G, we make sure that the coverage and reception are good, but we cannot yet say how many antennas will be installed at the moment. We have an allocated frequency band and we are doing what are called implantation files. These files will be carried out in the course of next year for Chartres. All of this must be done in consultation with local elected officials. “
