On Thursday, September 10, at around 22:00, the officials of the Zemgale Region Office of the State Police received information from a resident that a car was moving unconvincingly on the Liepāja highway from Kalnciems to the Liepāja side. The information was immediately passed on to the nearest crew, and after a short time a car was stopped in Dobele region, the driver of which was diagnosed with alcohol intoxication.
As a result of a successful cooperation between a resident and the police, the employees of the Tukums section of the Zemgale Regional Office of the State Police stopped the car “Audi A4” on the 19th km of the Jelgava – Tukums road in Jaunbērze Parish, Dobele Region. A test of alcohol in the driver’s breath revealed that she had been driving under the influence of 2.80 per cent. Administrative violation proceedings have been initiated with the police.
Pursuant to Section 62, Paragraph four of the Road Traffic Law on driving a vehicle, if the concentration of alcohol in the blood detected by exhaled air or blood test exceeds 1.5 per mille, a fine of 1,200 – 2,000 euros is imposed and the right to drive is deprived for 5 years.
The police would like to thank the attentive resident who reported the suspicious vehicle for preventing a possible accident. We also call for the safety of yourself and your fellow human beings and under no circumstances to sit behind the wheel of a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, as well as to prevent friends, acquaintances and relatives from driving under the influence of alcohol.
