Ducati’s Off-Road Model Series: A Look at Their Latest Development and Weak Teaser Video

It has long been officially known that Ducati is working on an off-road model series. Now Ducati is releasing a video on this topic, the production costs of which they could have saved.

SPEEDWEEK readers of course already know that nine-time motocross world champion Tony Cairoli is joining Ducati as a motocross test rider to advance the motocross project that we first reported on several years ago. Ducati has been working specifically on developing an off-road model series for two years. In 2024, entry into the 450cc class of the Italian Motocross Championship has been announced with the Madii team, which is highly respected in this sector. Eight-time Italian champion Alessandro Lupino has already been hired as a driver.

Later, the 450 motocrosser will be turned into a model series with motocross and enduro machines. Ducati has already revealed that the valves on the four-stroke off-road machines are also controlled desmodromically. For those with less technical knowledge: In this design, the valves in the cylinder head are opened mechanically by cams (as usual), they are not closed as usual with springs, but mechanically with closing cams controlled by the camshaft(s). With this special valve control, Ducati announces a usable speed range that is wider than that of the competition.

With the off-road model series, Ducati wants to expand its customer segment to include off-road riders, the only segment that Ducati does not currently serve. Like Ducati, the British manufacturer Triumph has also announced its entry into the off-road segment in 2024 and every now and then treats us to a film about the state of things. Ducati, on the other hand, has recently managed to show us what is probably the weakest teaser video in motorcycle history on this topic.
