Dubois signs 8-year contract with the Kings after trade: Details and reactions

Dubois, who would become a restricted free agent on July 1, agreed to a new 8-year contract worth $8.5 million a year before joining the Kings.

The Montreal Canadiens will fish with two fewer picks following a trade. Will he try to trade his 5th pick as well? What to expect for the CH? The details with Alexandre Gascon.

Winnipeg Jets get Alex Iaffalo, Gabriel Vilardi, Rasmus Kupari and a 2024 2nd round pick.

According The Athletic, the Quebecer would have meant to the Jets, in recent weeks, that he would not sign a new agreement with them. His agent Pat Brisson reportedly told the Manitoba team that his client wanted neither a long-term deal nor a one-year contract.

Dubois was acquired from the Blue Jackets in January 2021, with a 3rd round pick, in return for Patrik Laine and Jack Roslovic.

He had 143 points in 195 regular season games for the Jets.

I think everyone knows that the Canadian was a team that interested me, admitted Dubois by videoconference, Tuesday evening. I wanted to go with the team that wanted me the most, and that’s the feeling I had with the Kings. As soon as I felt they wanted me, and they revealed their intentions and their plan with me, it was a pretty easy choice. We spoke with Montreal, but as soon as I started talking with the Kings, I had a good feeling. I believe I made the right decision.

The Quebecer adds that his decision was facilitated by his contact with Vladislav Gavrikov, his former teammate with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He signed a new contract with the Kings earlier this month. He loves Los Angeles, that’s what he told me. This confirmed me in my choice.

The timing is good, he knows we have a good team, and he knows he can compete for the Stanley Cup. He will have the chance to play with team players like Phillip Danault, Anze Kopitar. And Pierre-Luc is a team player, who pays the price, commented for his part the president of the Kings, Luc Robitaille.

Vilardi, the Kings’ 2017 1st round pick, had 41 points including 23 goals in 63 games last year. He is 23 years old.

Iafallo, 29, has played his entire career with the California squad, amassing 204 points in 420 games.

Kapari is a 23-year-old center who spent the last campaign between the NHL and the American Hockey League.

The 2nd-round pick originally belonged to the Montreal Canadiens, who used him for the services of Christian Dvorak of the Arizona Coyotes. The Kings got it by trading Sean Durzi earlier this month.
