Dualshock 5: New patent reports presence of sensory sensors – News

With the next arrival of the new generation of Sony console, comes the next controller Dualshock 5, the controller adapted to the PS5. Patents have been accumulating in recent months and today, it would be a biofeedback system aimed at modifying the user experience that would be implemented on the pad.

On occasion from a previous article, we had mentioned various patents which could relate to Dualshock 5. Today, according to information relayed by the Respawn First site, a new patent would relate to the next pad. These would be sensors that would be located on one or both sides of the handles of the Dualshock 5, in order to monitor the electrodermic activity (sweat secretion) and the user’s heart rate. The feedback would then be used by the PlayStation 5 to make adjustments to the gaming experience, in a manner still unknown to this day.

Dualshock 5: New patent would report the presence of sensory sensors

If the patent does not specify the modifications that this system is capable of making to the individual experience, it mentions the use of player images, indicating the possible capture via a PlayStation camera during VR sessions.

The information collected would be used to automatically select, without player intervention, one or more options presented in a content item.

The purpose of the patent, as described by the document, is to provide “an immersive and highly interactive experience for players“. However, it is legitimate to wonder: if the functions present in this patent are actually implemented on the Dualshock 5, will there be the possibility of choosing to activate them or not? Or will this data collection be imposed? In any event, the question of consent will inevitably arise.
