Drop in Gunshot-Related Crime Shows Promising Decline in New York City

Events involving gunshots fell 25% in New York during the first six months of the year, compared to the same period in 2022, one of the data reflecting a general decline in crime in the American metropolis after a rise coinciding with the COVID-19 pandemic. Other major crimes all fell, with murders, rapes and burglaries down about 10%. To comment on Acting NYPD Chief Edward Caban, alluding to the drop in incidents where shots have been fired: “It’s no coincidence. From the start of this administration, we have made the fight against gun violence our top priority. »
