Drones and socks used to get contraband into Zaan prison

At least three attempts have been made this month to smuggle items into Zaanstad prison. This mainly concerns telephones and drugs. Not only were drones used, the police were also able to arrest two ‘sock throwers’. Prison confirms new smuggling attempts after questions from NH News.

The most notable smuggling attempt was that of Wednesday, February 16. Prison staff saw on surveillance cameras two men on the bike path making throwing movements. This happened at the moment when the prisoners are ‘aired’ in the courtyard.

The alerted police arrived and two of the men were caught in the act, throwing stuffed socks over the wall. The socks contain telephones, chargers, earphones and a SIM card.

The ‘sock throwers’ come from Amsterdam and Apeldoorn. “A third man was arrested, but he turned out to be a taxi driver, a snorderwho had no idea what he had driven to prison for,” police said.
