Drivers appear in heavy intoxication. Police start massive roadside checks – ČT24 – Czech Television

The driver inhaled 4.22 per mille

According to the police, it is alarming that drivers who have sat behind the wheel in heavy drunkenness have recently appeared. For example, at the beginning of July, the police detained a driver in the Trutnov region who inhaled 4.22 per mille. On Tuesday, July 14, a driver with 3.08 per mille of alcohol crashed into a fence in Dvůr Králové.

In mid-June, a driver crashed two cars in Trutnov with 3.59 per mille. On Sunday, July 5, the driver with 2.44 per mille of alcohol in his blood in Hradec Králové broke through the railing on the Malšovice overpass and fell with him on the road of the Hradec Králové ring road.

The cases from the Hradec Králové region reflect the reality of the whole country. In Brno, for example, a high-speed driver crashed in the Husovice tunnel. He had over two per mille of alcohol in his blood. He was slightly injured. The driver, who crashed into a police car in Prague at the beginning of July, was also drunk and drugged. While she escaped with a minor injury, one police officer died and two others were injured.

Drunk drivers cause about five thousand accidents a year. Last year, 53 people died in them. Most, after eight dead, are in the South Moravian and Olomouc regions. The number of drunk drivers is growing even during routine inspections. The adjustment of the points system therefore provides for a tightening of sanctions. For the category over one per mille, it is a fine of up to 75 thousand crowns, six points and a ban on driving from 1 to 10 years.

“Of course, the threat of stricter sanctions also plays a certain preventive role,” says Jiří Zlý, director of the traffic police.

Massive police checks will continue in the Hradec Králové Region throughout the weekend. Gradually, other regions will join them.
