The false report that circulates mainly on Facebook and Whatsapp, according to which the drinking water of almost 50,000 consumers in Zellingen (district Main-Spessart) and the Würzburg district communities of Leinach, Hettstadt, Waldbüttelbrunn, Uettingen, Höchberg, Eisingen, Kist, Helmstadt, Neubrunn , Erlabrunn, Thüngersheim and Zell am Main are contaminated, probably dates from 2018, the water supplier suspects.
Back then, the inhabitants of all communities whose water flows over the Zellingen elevated reservoir actually had to boil their water for weeks. During a routine check, enterococci (faecal germs) were found that had no business in drinking water. After the accident, the water was disinfected with chlorine for more than two years. The elevated tank has only been free of chlorine again since January 19 of this year.
Where the water is just not right
The Würzburg Health Department confirms that the water in the entire district of Würzburg is currently clean. With one exception: The residents of the Greußenheim community, who draw their water from their own well, must boil it before drinking, washing food or brushing their teeth. Enterococci had been discovered there during a routine check. In addition, the water in Greußenheim is also chlorinated.
