Brittany Brees, wife of NFL superstar Drew, has taken a stand against racism in a post posted on Instagram and has committed herself to doing more to fight it.

“We are the problem,” wrote Brees, who has been married to the New Orleans Saints quarterback since 2003. “White America isn’t listening, we’re not looking for solutions. It’s our job to educate ourselves, we have to do better.” The statement was shared on the family owned foundation’s website.

Her husband Drew had been criticized for a statement made last Wednesday: The 41-year-old American football player had expressed his lack of understanding of the players who were kneeling in protest against racism during the national anthem. “I will never agree with anyone who disrespects the flag of the United States or our country,” said Brees.

The following day, after numerous negative reactions from other NFL players, he apologized for these statements: “They were insensitive and completely missed the point.” Even US President Donald Trump intervened in the debate and again criticized Brees for apologizing: “I think he’s really one of the greatest quarterbacks, but he shouldn’t have withdrawn his original stance on honoring our beautiful American flag. “
