“We invited more multi-genre bands to previous years, but in recent years we’ve been trying to focus mainly on rock. We don’t want the performers to keep repeating themselves, which is why we change the program every year,” explained festival organizer Aleš Sigmund.
The rain did not deter
It rained throughout the festival Tuesday, but visitors came to the event in large numbers.
“Several thousand people arrived. Compared to previous years, there were perhaps a little fewer because of the bad weather, but we are still satisfied. We tried to cover the area as much as possible so that people could hide in case of heavy rain,” added Sigmund.

Rock fans from all over the country came to Dřevohostice again this year.
“We are always worried about the traffic situation on the day of the event, but so far it has been managed every year even with the subsequent cleaning. We expect more noise, but it’s only one day, so it’s not a hindrance. Music belongs to summer and the conditions for the festival in the castle garden are excellent,” commented the mayor of Dřevohostic, Petr Dostál.
The gates of the complex opened exceptionally early this time. Visitors could start filling the castle garden from half past eleven in the morning. The organizers decided to do so so that there would be no traffic problems due to the large number of visitors.
“Compared to previous flights, we have shifted the entire program by half an hour so that we finish earlier,” explained Sigmund.

On stage, people could also hear the well-known hits of the Mňága and Žďorp groups.
“We performed here for the first time and we really enjoyed it. The audience was perfect. After two years, we started playing properly again, so we prepared a cross-section of our work for the audience,” said Petr Fiala, the frontman of this Wallachian group.
“We have a very busy calendar this summer. After Dřevorockfest, we head to Uherské Hradiště, and then to Brno. For now, we’re trying to play mainly well-known songs to get back into it, but we plan to release a new record in two years,” added Fiala.
The biggest stars of the festival – the bands Horkýže Slíže and Tři sestry, which played in the evening, also received a big ovation from the audience.
In addition to the music program, visitors were also treated to a number of non-traditional competitions. For example, the run with garden wheels, in which the husband and wife Pavelko from Loučka scored.
“We have an incredible interplay, so it couldn’t have turned out any other way,” they commented on their performance.
There was also great interest in the competition in eating hot burgers.
“I used to eat a lot of spicy food, but lately I don’t look for it much anymore. But even without training, this burger almost didn’t burn me at all,” confided one of the contestants, Havel Paroulek.
