In anticipation of her 100th birthday, Vija Vētra will perform in the concert Dance of a Lifetime / Day

At the beginning of June, Vija Vētra arrives in Riga – a legendary Latvian dancer, the initiator of the Indian and sacred dance movement in Latvia, an artist and a dance teacher. After a three-year break, the artist travels a long way from the United States, to New York, to visit her homeland and meet lovers of her talent. This year is special – a dancer climbs on the stage of the Golden Hall of the Riga Latvian Society to go to the dance floor towards his 100th birthday and the 79th anniversary of his creative and stage life.

In concert Dance of a lifetime Vija Vētra herself will dance, as well as will be able to see her choreographed. Vija Storm’s dance group is invited to participate in the stage concerts of the unique concert RitualAgra Danilevich Dance School Mill, actress Raimonda Vazdika. You will also be able to enjoy the performance of the famous Latvian pianist Vestards Šimkus, which will be dedicated to Vija Vētra.

Vija Vētra was born on February 6, 1923 in Rīga. Studied choreography in Vienna. Together with many Latvians, she has traveled to Australia, where she has lived for sixteen years, during which she has had a fateful encounter with Indian dance traditions. In 1962, Vija Vētra returned to Europe, where she danced and taught dancing skills. Vija Vētra has been living in a social apartment in Manhattan, New York since 1964.

Since the restoration of Latvia’s national independence in 1990, Vija Vētra has gone to Latvia every summer and shared her love of dance. Generations of dancers inspired by Vija Storm have grown up. During the seventy-nine years of the stage, she has danced in Australia, America, India, the Temple of Aphee on the island of Aegina in Greece, as well as Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain. Sadler’s Wells theater in London. A Latvian suite was danced in the Baltic program at the World’s Fair in New York in 1964. The prayer of the people of the poet Andrejs Eglītis and composer Lūcija Garūta, who danced in the Talsi Church in 2012, has become a sensation. God, your land is burning!
