Dresden lifts budget freeze for 2023

Dresden – Because Dresden can expect significantly higher tax revenue, the city is lifting the budget freeze. “The development of our tax revenue is pleasingly good, especially in comparison with many other German municipalities,” said Dresden Mayor Dirk Hilbert (FDP) on Tuesday. The lifting of the budget freeze is therefore logical. The city had originally expected trade taxes of 398.2 million euros. However, due to special effects, the city is now assuming 460.3 million euros. That would be a significant increase over last year’s record revenue.

However, Hilbert pointed out that the city’s expenditure exceeded its income at a total of 1.95 billion euros. The city is currently expecting a loss of around 50 million euros for the coming year. Dresden imposed a budget freeze in June of this year.
