This is how the city compares to the region

The RKI reported more than 22,000 new infections on Wednesday for NRW. Health authorities are reaching their limits, new records are being measured every day – in Mönchengladbach and in the region.

Almost 2000 Mönchengladbachers are acutely infected with Corona, the seven-day incidence has been above the 200 mark since Monday and hundreds of new infections are reported every day – on Wednesday there were 347, on Tuesday 220 and on Monday 443. The health department is reaching its limits . As the city announced on Tuesday afternoon, contact tracing will be carried out after prioritization. Means: Retirement homes, schools and daycare centers now have priority. And: Citizens are required to comply with the quarantine rules on their own responsibility.

The city of Mönchengladbach is not alone with this measure. Contact tracing has also been restructured in other municipalities to cope with the high volume – weeks ago. Examples include Wuppertal (on Wednesday an incidence of 994.4) and the Aachen city region (641.5). Duisburg and the Heinsberg district announced this week that they would no longer be able to keep track of contacts. In Düsseldorf, there will also be increased reliance on citizens’ initiatives in the future.

The rapid increase in the seven-day incidence in Mönchengladbach (from Sunday to Monday the value jumped from 458.7 to 610.4) is not a phenomenon that can only be observed in Vitusstadt. According to the State Center for Health (LZG), the seven-day incidence has been increasing nationwide since Christmas (from 191.1 on December 25 to 583.1 on January 17). In Krefeld – a city with a population similar to Mönchengladbach – the seven-day value rose by 169.3 points earlier in the week (from 668.7 on Monday to 838 on Tuesday). On Wednesday, the Robert Koch Institute reported the incidence of the silk city at 900.2. Similar developments can be observed in the surrounding districts: in the district of Viersen, the seven-day incidence rose from 395.6 to 532.6 within five days. In the Heinsberg district, the value rose by 191 (from 364.6 on Thursday to 556.0 on Tuesday), in the Rhein-Erft district by 221.2 (from 476.8 to 698), in the Rhein-Kreis- Neuss but only by 51.5 (from 379 to 430.5). In Düsseldorf – meanwhile the city with the highest seven-day incidence – the situation has eased further in the past few days. The incidence in the state capital was 427.9 on Wednesday.

In Mönchengladbach, the many new infections are primarily attributed to the leisure sector by the health department. In the current situation, the further development of the corona pandemic depends in two senses on the personal responsibility of the citizens.
