Dresden helps refugees from Ukraine with hotel rooms

In Dresden there is a wave of helpfulness for the people from Ukraine. The fan project has already been able to buy a used ambulance and two emergency generators with donations. There are also other donations in kind, which are now being driven to the border. Meanwhile, the Dresden hotel alliance has made 300 rooms available for refugees from the Ukraine at short notice.

Florian Leisentritt, Chairman of the Dresdner Hotelallianz, helped organize the campaign: “And once again, an extremely stricken industry shows a big heart: within a few hours, a considerable number of offers of help naturally came in.”

Johannes Lohmeyer, Chairman of the Tourist Association Dresden e. V. explains: “Our industry experienced a lot of solidarity from the general public during the difficult time of the corona pandemic. We would like to give back a piece of this solidarity and help those who are now in this terrible situation through no fault of their own.” The hotels make the rooms available at cost price, ie far below the actual value. A corresponding agreement with the city is currently in the works.

“We are experiencing an incredible wave of support and solidarity with the people of Ukraine these days. My sincere thanks go to all Dresdeners for this,” says Lord Mayor Dirk Hilbert. “The fact that the tourism industry is making us this offer shows how we stand together in this city when it matters most. Even if only relatively few people from the Ukraine have arrived in Saxony so far, this can change on a daily basis. Also thanks to the Dresden hotels we are prepared!”
