Dresden. Five suspected jewel thieves are in custody after breaking into the Green Vault in November 2019. The ex officio detention test was now required for two of them. It must take place after six months of pre-trial detention.
The 3rd Criminal Senate of the Dresden Higher Regional Court has ordered that the suspects stay behind bars. The Senate thus confirmed the urgent suspicion of serious gang theft and arson. The arson relates to the underground car park in Mickten, where the perpetrators are said to have parked the getaway car and set it on fire. It can still not be used.

In view of the impending high prison sentence in the event of a conviction, the Senate has accepted the reason for imprisonment of the risk of escape, the higher regional court announced this Monday. In addition, there is a risk of blackout.

In view of the extremely complex investigations, the speed-up requirement in detention matters was observed. According to the court, the decision is not contestable. The next regular detention test has to take place in three months.
The Senate did not currently have to decide on the duration of detention for the three other arrested suspects, because different dates apply depending on the different lengths of pre-trial detention.
