Dresden: After the UEFA ban – Rudolf Harbig Stadium shines in rainbow colors

The Rudolf Harbig Stadium in Dresden will also take part in the rainbow-colored lighting – as far as possible.

Dresden – Against the ban, the Munich EM-Stadion to beam in rainbow colors on Wednesday evening for the Germany game, there are now more and more stadiums. So also the Dresden Rudolf Harbig Stadium – home ground of Dynamo Dresden.

“Tomorrow we will also produce colorful rainbow-colored lighting within the framework of the technical possibilities,” said Ronald Tscherning, head of the Stadion Dresden project company, about TAG24.

Several stadiums have already announced that they will light up their arenas in bright colors, including Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, Augsburg, Düsseldorf.

According to the Association of German Stadium Operators (VdS), “those stadiums that have the appropriate technical capabilities will shine in rainbow colors on June 23, 2021”.

And further: “Those clubs whose stadiums are technically incapable of doing this will show their solidarity in other ways, for example with rainbow flags or content on their social media channels.”

In Dresden, the action will take place as part of the public viewing.

“Everyone, really everyone, has their place in our stadiums. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a player or a visitor. It doesn’t matter where you come from, what religion you belong to or what sexual orientation you have,” said the VdS.

The background to this is the rejection of an application by the Mayor of Munich Dieter Reiter (63, SPD) on Tuesday. Reason: “Given the political context of this particular request – a message aimed at a decision by the Hungarian Parliament – UEFA must reject this request,” said the European Football Union.

The Hungarian parliament last Tuesday approved a law that restricts young people’s right to information about homosexuality and transsexuality.

The UEFA ban caused a stir across Germany. Hungary, on the other hand, welcomed UEFA’s decision. The European Football Union “made the right decision,” said Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó (42).
