Armed men identified as CODECO militiamen killed on the evening of Friday January 13, 2023, the medical director of the General Hospital of Aungba, in the chiefdom of the Alur Djuganga in the territory of Mahagi Province of Ituri.
Local sources report that Doctor Towaso Ujwiga Ponet was killed while visiting a family near his home.
So far, the cause of his murder remains unknown. Some sources do not rule out the thesis of a settling of scores after remarks he would have made, as an opinion leader, in the extended local security meeting.
The medical body of Ituri province sent a memorandum to the military governor so that serious investigations be carried out.
His body is being kept at the morgue in Nebi, neighboring Uganda, pending burial in his native village in Djalasiga, Mahagi territory.
