Dangerous crater
“The Eulenbergsee is a nature reserve of the Nabu. Bathing is strictly forbidden there“says Thomas Vitiello. Warning signs around the lake also pointed this out. Nevertheless, about 50 people would have been on the banks of the water on the evening of the accident.
The lake looks like a crater filled with water. There are few shallow rivers, the walls rise steeply.
Swimming there is life-threatening, the firefighter warns. The bottom immediately drops off steeply, not flat, like on a swimming lake. Not only could there be dangerous undercurrents, the temperature differences in the water could quickly be fatal to the human body.
