Xanten. Award ceremony of the Sparkasse in the Siegfried Museum

Dragon blood tastes good, especially when it is actually cherry juice. It was now in the Siegfried Museum for Julia Keuschen and Christian Michelet. The two nine-year-olds answered the quiz questions about the book correctly on the occasion of the “Young Siegfried” special exhibition. Jürgen ‘Moses’ Pankarz, who drew and colored the pictures for the book of heroes, came to the award ceremony. “A total of 55 children took part in the competition, you were drawn,” reported Monika Pogacic from the Sparkasse am Niederrhein, which had invited the competition.

“When Siegfried fights the dragon and he later bathes in blood,” Julia answered when asked what she would have liked best in the book. The winners each received a hand-signed book and a picture from the exhibition with a dedication by the artist. Moses Pankarz revealed that his grandson Florian was the model for some scenes. “For this I made him a helmet, a sword and a shield out of paper,” says the graphic artist, who is best known from his collaboration with Hanns Dieter Hüsch. The third winner, Greta Krieger, who was unable to attend the awards ceremony, received her awards later.

For more than ten years, Moses Pankarz worked on the book “Jung-Siegfried” with rhymed texts by Günter Frorath. It offers colorful and exciting insights into the life of the legendary hero Siegfried. The world-famous Nibelungenlied from the early 13th century tells of the king’s son from Xanten. Each epoch has heard and interpreted the hero song differently. The book retells the old material with lots of charm and wit. “A picture reading book for well-rested children that the grown-ups may be allowed to borrow,” says the blurb.
