Dragon Ball Super, the Moro arc is recycling the formulas of Dragon Ball Z

Dragon Ball Super he is having one of his best moments. The appearance of Moro marked the arrival of a ruthless villain, one of those who had not seen each other for several years. With the development of this story arc, however, many fans have begun to see some cracks in the work conceived by Akira Toriyama and designed by Toyotaro. Just like the previous events that took place in Dragon Ball Super, this new series too he cannot take a new path and shake off the ghosts of the past. Let’s analyze the structure of this arch.

ATTENTION: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS DRAGON BALL SUPER SPOILERS

The Ultra Instinct and the Super Saiyan

During chapter 63 of Dragon Ball Super, Moro has revealed all its power and not even Goku and Vegeta could do anything against him. The evil devourer of worlds is relentless and only the intervention of Merus saved the Z fighters from defeat. However, using his angelic powers costs him his life, with planet Earth now poised for destruction. At the end of the chapter, Goku, enraged by Merus’s disappearance, seems ready for a new transformation; will he finally be able to control Ultra Instinct?

This scenario is particularly unlikely given that the Ultra Instinct it was presented to us as a transformation linked to the control of emotions. With Goku’s soul now filled with hatred and anger, according to the information collected so far, it would not be possible to use Ultra Instinct. But if that were the case, this would be nothing more than a tribute to Goku’s first transformation into Super Saiyan, which occurred following the death of his best friend Krillin at the hands of Freeza.

Moro’s extraordinary abilities are a déjà vu

When Moro first appeared, there was a sense that he was a never-before-seen villain. As events went on, this effect slowly waned. At the moment, Moro looks like nothing more than an original quote to the Great Little Wizard. Just like the Namek, Moro was presented as an evil elder able to absorb the energy of others. Later Moro managed to regain his youth, but again the formula did not change. In fact, its latest aesthetic form is very similar to the Cell one.

The secondary role of the Prince of the Saiyans

After traveling to Planet Yardrat and learning a new technique capable of undoing both mergers and energy absorption techniques, we would all have expected a finally decisive Vegeta, able to take the reins of the battle and take down the bad guy without any problem. And yet, once again, the Prince of the Saiyans came out of the fight reduced. Vegeta, as well as in practically all the Dragon Ball Z sagas, takes on the role of supporting actor. In Dragon Ball, the role of the hero belongs to Goku.

Surprise effect vanished

During the next chapter of the Dragon Ball Super manga, the 64th, we expect to see a Goku able to fully master Ultra Instinct. Moro, the villain who seemed unstoppable, will do nothing against the new potential of the Saiyan. Initially, this story arc looked promising, but it turned out to be nothing more a carbon copy of the events that happened in Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball Super deserves an extra touch of originality, both in the battles and in the general plot. Scenes that were once surprising, are no longer surprising after many years.
