Dr. Lie’s Floating Hospital Drowns in NTB, Zero Casualties

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Floating Hospital (RSA) which was initiated by dr. Lie Agustinus Dharmawan drowned in the waters of the Sape Strait, Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) last Wednesday (16/6).

The unfortunate incident occurred when the ship was sailing from Tenau Island, Kupang, NTT to Torano, Sumbawa Besar, NTB, after completing a medical assignment on Tenau Island.

“On June 16 there was an accident at Dr. Lie’s Floating Hospital, which was sailing from Tenau Island to Sumbawa Island, which caused it to sink,” said dr. Lie in his official statement quoted on the site doctorshare.org, Friday (18/6).

Lie said he was investigating the cause of the sinking of the floating hospital, which has the nickname ‘Bloody hell’.

Before the unfortunate incident, RSA dr. Lie Dharmawan just finished his medical service on Semau Island, Kupang, from 7 – 14 June 2021.

He made sure there were no casualties as a result of the incident. All six crew members (ABK) survived.

All crew members, he said, managed to save themselves using lifeboats before receiving help from the passenger ship KM Niki Sejahtera to Surabaya.

“Including the captain of the ship. Praise God they are all safe so there are no casualties,” said Lie.

Lie admits that the sinking of the Floating Hospital will affect the program being run by the Doctors Care Foundation which oversees it.

However, Lie emphasized that the spirit of reaching out and helping people in remote areas of Indonesia will never be extinguished.

“We will rise and return to sailing with a new “volunteer”, with the second RSA Dr. Lie Dharmawan in the near future,” he said.

Since 2013, Dr Lie Dharmawan Hospital has sailed to various parts of Indonesia to serve public health in remote areas. While sailing on a humanitarian mission, thousands of residents have received medical services on this hospital ship.
