DPR Is Confident That Andika Perkasa Department’s Time Will Be Extended To 2024

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Vice Chairman of Commission I DPR RI Abdul Kharis Almasyhari believes in the President Joko Widodo will extend the term of office of General Andika Perkasa as Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces for two years. Andika is estimated to retire at the age of 60 or in 2024.

“I believe (Andika’s term of office) will be extended,” Kharis told reporters at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta on Monday (8/11).

He said that Andika’s term of office could be extended in two ways, namely personally or by issuing a presidential regulation (perpres) to change the active period of high-ranking TNI officers to 60 years.

The PKS politician agrees that changes in the active period of high-ranking TNI officers can be made through the revision of Law Number 34 of 2004 concerning the TNI. However, according to him, the effort to revise the regulation has not been realized until now.

“Indeed, all this time, we want to revise it, but it hasn’t started yet, because it is a proposal from the government. But I see it will be extended,” he said.

In addition to changing the active period of high-ranking officers, he continued, changes will also be made to the active period of enlisted officers and non-commissioned officers to 58 years.

“I don’t know the extension specifically for him or the tenure of high-ranking officers because enlisted and non-commissioned officers will increase to 58. If enlisted non-commissioned officers have increased, the tenure of high-ranking officers will not increase. If it goes up to two years, it means up to 60 years, my speculation is like that,” he said. .

“I’m not saying that it will be extended in Andika’s own name or anything, but I have faith that it will be up to 60 years, that means until 2024,” he added.

Previously, the DPR Plenary Meeting had approved Andika to serve as TNI Commander. The plenary session of the DPR also approved the honorable discharge of Hadi from the position of TNI Commander.

Hadi is known to be retired at the end of November 2021.

For information, Andika stated that he was still waiting for Jokowi’s decision regarding the timing of his inauguration as TNI Commander.

“I’m still waiting for the official confirmation from the president,” Andika told reporters at the Nusantara II Building, DPR RI, Central Jakarta, Monday (8/11).

Although it has been approved by the DPR, until now Andika admits that he has not received any information about when he will be sworn in.

“I have not been informed, I have not been informed until now,” said Andika.
