Dozens of people killed by storms in Indonesia | Abroad

The violence of nature overtook people on the island of Flores in their sleep on Sunday morning. “Dozens of houses in the village of Lamanele became buried in mud,” reports the emergency response service. A bridge collapsed on the nearby island of Adonara.

Due to the severe weather, relief work is slow to get going. Rescue workers are unable to reach villages in the disaster area by sea due to heavy rainfall and high waves. The authorities say the end of the storm is also not yet in sight.

The death toll may rise even further. According to the emergency response service, “many” people are still buried under the mud.
