The Ducati rider from Forlì who participated in the first motocross race of the regional championship on the track (with the authorization of the Casa di Borgo Panigale, who instead denied it to the other rider of the official team, Danilo Petrucci) of Monte Coralli, near Faenza, fell landing badly and injuring his left shoulder. Immediately on his way to the Forl hospital for the first x-rays, he received confirmation of the dreaded diagnosis: compound fracture of the left clavicle. The operation scheduled for Sunday evening in Modena and will be performed by Dr. Giuseppe Porcellini, who had also cured Valentino Rossi in the past. According to Ducati director Paolo Ciabatti, there is a good chance that Andrea will be able to recover in time to race at Jerez.

Cross has always been Andrea Dovizioso’s great love, in some respects a love greater than MotoGP. Passion transmitted to him by Pap Antonio from a very young age, a sacred ritual to be performed weekly with friends, but not at all an amateur hobby. Over time, in fact, Andrea has elected him as the first training tool and has become an excellent cross rider: more than one expert, he believes he is able to compete with the best Italian professional interpreters. To exclude therefore that it was an imprudence, because the Dovi crossista good and responsible. He himself had explained on the eve: The fundamental cross for my training and Ducati knows it: the results in these years have been seen, especially in the initial parts of the races.

What is certain, in short, that it was a colossal misfortune for the one who, until proven otherwise, strong of the three consecutive second places in the World Cup from 2017 to 2019, intended to present himself on 19 July as the first opponent of the world champion Marc Marquez. In a season reduced to 13 races, full of unknowns and perhaps best suited to those who, like Dovi, make regularity and tactical intelligence their main weapons, their cards seem very good. In a hazy future for the stalled negotiation with Ducati for the renewal of the contract, another cloud would not be good for the best Italian rider out there.
