According to Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, it is no coincidence that he decided the top match against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday with an unparalleled lob (0-1).
“I did not see where he was before I shot, but before the game we were told that Roman Bürki is often far in front of his line,” said 25-year-old Kimmich after the game in the almost empty Signal Iduna Park about the goalkeeper of Borussia Dortmund.
Kimmich used that tip and became match winner just before half-time in the game between the league leader (Bayern) and the number two (Dortmund) of the Bundesliga. The German skipped the ball from just outside the sixteen-meter area over Bürki.
“I shot three times in the last two games and it didn’t work. So now I tried it like this,” Kimmich smiled. “This was definitely the best goal of my career. It was also so important.”
Bayern now has seven points ahead of Dortmund due to the victory. With six games to go, the eighth title in a row is within reach. “We now have a nice buffer with Dortmund,” said Kimmich. “It will be mentally difficult for them to make up for this difference.”
Bayern coach Hansi Flick remained a bit more careful. “I always said I don’t want to look too far into the future. We wanted to take a big step today and we did. I am very, very satisfied with the performance of my team.”

Dortmund angry about penalty not given
Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre was also happy with the game of his team afterwards. “The first thirty minutes and the second half were very good. We deserved at least a draw, but we missed the final pass.”
Favre felt that his team was denied a penalty after an hour when slipped Bayern defender Jérôme Boateng seemed to block a shot from Erling Haaland with his elbow. “That was a clear penalty,” said the Swiss trainer.
Defender Mats Hummels acknowledged that the title is now far away for Dortmund. “We have to hope for three Bayern mistakes. They will determine who will be the champion.”
