The new Facebook has advantages … and disadvantages

Mark Zuckerberg’s social network has had a makeover since spring 2020: it has been possible since May to choose the new version of Facebook, by clicking on the drop-down menu at the top right and on “Switch to new Facebook”.

This new interface has several peculiarities, in addition to having an “F” logo now clearer than the previous one: the computer presentation now takes up the entire width of your screen, and the content is displayed in larger size, which allows you to see less information at a glance than before. It also allows display Facebook with a dark theme, which many users have been asking for for a long time.

Some Internet users, including part of the editorial staff of Numerama, have however noticed that this “new Facebook” was much slower than the old one: slowdowns regularly degrade the user experience, to the point where we sometimes prefer to close the social network window rather than waiting more than 15 seconds for it to display something. The observation is paradoxical, as the new interface is supposed to be closer to the one we have on mobile, and therefore potentially benefit from a shorter loading time.
