“Don’t give up!” Valdis Zatlers opened up about his battle with cancer and paralysis

In 2012, it became known that Valdis Zatlers is fighting prostate cancer. He underwent surgery in the summer of the same year. At that time, Zatler explained the illness by the fact that he had been in Chernobyl for two months, and also believed that there was an internal reason for the illness, related to his thinking and lifestyle. Well, in an LTV interview, the ex-president revealed how his life changed after learning the diagnosis.

“My health problems are my problems. I have been sick very little in my life, but always seriously. I have been on sick leave for 10 days in the Saeima and three days when I was the head of a hospital. Has my illness prevented me from working? Never.

If you “hit” two diseases at the same time – cancer and paralysis, then neither one nor the other is pleasant.

One threatens you with death, the other with a wheelchair. All this is becoming a reality. Is it easy? I do not know. I really don’t know, but there is this fatal approach – I have to get through it. I have to look for the mistakes I have made in my life, in my assessments of life, and move forward.

That’s how I’ve been functioning successfully for 10 years, I’m satisfied with life. Don’t give up.
