The American President, Donald trump, threatened this Wednesday to “strongly regulate” or “close” social media platforms, after Twitter He will rate two of his tweets as “misleading” and treat him as a disseminator of unverified information.
“Republicans feel that social media platforms completely silence conservative voices. We are going to strongly regulate them or we are going to shut them down, rather than allow something like this to happen,” the president tweeted.
Twitter’s decision escalated tensions between Washington and Silicon Valley in an election year and it was made in response to two recent Trump tweets. The messages said that voting by mail is fraudulent, which is false. The tag Twitter put on those messages was: “Look up the facts about voting by mail,” a diplomatic way of saying that information needs to be corroborated.
Twitter spokeswoman Katie Rosborough said the presidential tweets “contain potentially biased information about the voting process and have been tagged to provide additional content about voting by mail.”
