Former US President Donald Trump was arrested minutes after he was brought under heavy security to the Manhattan Criminal Court building, world agencies reported.
Trump, 76, entered the courtroom with his fist raised.
He is the first president in US history to face criminal charges. The charges are related to the investigation into bribery of porn actress Stormy Daniels.
The actress claims Trump bought her silence on personal matters during the 2016 presidential campaign.
As his motorcade traveled from Trump Tower to Manhattan, the former head of state wrote a post in her profile on Truth Social: “I’m headed for Lower Manhattan, the Courthouse. It seems so surreal – wow, I’m going to get arrested. I can’t believe this is happening in America. Let’s Make America Great Again!”
The court did not allow the trial to be photographed with cameras, only five photographers were admitted.
