The Mugen family from manufacturer Scythe is perhaps one of the best known series of processor coolers on the market. Many of the coolers are built around a large cooling block with usually a single 120mm fan on top. Some time ago we tested, among others, the Mugen 5 Rev.C, which uses the same cooling block as its predecessor, but is equipped with new fans.
The Kaze Flex II fans on the Mugen 5 Rev.C can run faster than the previous Rev.B at the same noise level, thus moving more air. The test therefore showed that in many cases the new revision performs better than its predecessor. However, with the lowest sound pressure of 15 dB(A), the Mugen 5 PCGH-Edition, named after the German PC gaming hardware, remained on top. This cooler uses the same cooling block as the other Mugen 5s, but with two fans designed for minimal noise production. This was achieved by, among other things, limiting the maximum speed of the PCGH to just 800. Our test results have already shown that the Mugen 5 PCGH is an impressive cooler for quiet fanatics, with the caveat that the features also provide a clear performance limit when it comes to maximum cooling capacity.
Since the Mugen 5 Rev.C’s new fan spins faster and outperforms the Rev.B at lower sound levels in our tests, the question arose as to what a second fan would add. An extra Scythe Mugen 5 Rev.C Kaze Flex II fan provides significantly better cooling at both low and high noise levels, and you also have true PCGH-killer? We went to investigate and screwed a second Kaze Flex II onto our Mugen 5 Rev.C, which we jokingly renamed the Kaze Flex II for this test. Mugen 5 Tweakers Edition.
